Manatee River Youth Sailing is currently hiring Sailing Instructors for our Summer 2024 Learn to Sail programs. Our summer schedule is Monday - Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Our two-week sessions run from June 3rd through August 9th. Both full-time and part-time applicants are welcome. The pay range is from $15 to $25 an hour based on experience and qualifications.
We offer classes for young kids ages 6-7, youth sailors ages 8-12, and teens ages 13-16. All classes are sailed from the Bishop Sailing Center located adjacent to the Bradenton Yacht Club on the north side of the Manatee River in Palmetto, FL. We primarily teach in our fleet of SailCubes, Optis, O'Pen Skiffs, Sunfish, C/420s, and a Flying Scot.
Instructor Responsibilities Include:
Teach safety, boat handling techniques, and sailing theory to children.
Lead classes through a series of fun games and activity-based lesson plans.
Show empathy for the students and be able to adapt to their individual needs.
Demonstrate and fairly enforce all sailing center rules and regulations
Help maintain and clean the docks, boats, and grounds before and after class.
Job Requirements, Qualifications, and Skills:
US Sailing Level 1 Instructor Certified for lead roles.
Experience operating power boats.
Prior experience instructing groups of children is preferred.
Passion for sailing, the environment, and working with kids.
Positive, enthusiastic, and flexible attitude.
Strong problem-solving skills and an ability to adapt to dynamic situations.
Reliable, motivated, and possess good presentation skills.
Lead by example with safety, fun, and learning at the forefront.
